Job description

The Frontier Development Lab Program (FDL) is an applied artificial intelligence research accelerator, hosted at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California.  FDL brings together teams of experts from a variety of scientific fields, and the commercial sector to give PhD candidates, Postdocs, and early career Ph.D. researchers the opportunity to push the frontiers of AI/ML research, and develop new tools that solve some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. 

NOTE: IMPORTANT ADDITION for FDL 2025: Researchers holding a master’s degree with a focus in Machine Learning and an expertise in programming are encouraged to apply.

The Frontier Development Lab is seeking doctorate/post doctorate researchers for the 2025 FDL Program (June 16 - August 8), an AI/ML rapid prototyping research sprint (stipend provided), with experience in one of the following disciplines:

Job requirements

  • PhD candidates, Postdocs, and early career Ph.D. researchers

  • AI/ML Experts holding a master’s degree may apply

  • Experience with AI/ML tools and methodology

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are a must

  • Ability to interact collaboratively in a fast paced team environment is a key requirement

  • Must have strong time management skills, and the ability to be flexible with schedule changes 

  • Commitment to participate in the full 8 week program

  • Excellent problem solving abilities
